Native Conservancy was established more than 20 years ago after the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill that devastated Alaska’s Prince William Sound. Since then, the organization has worked to preserve, repatriate and restore ancestral homelands, traditional food sources and subsistence practices, revitalizing Native culture, health and spirituality. Central to their work today is collaborating with community partners to build an Alaska Native regenerative kelp and mariculture economy that is grounded in Indigenous knowledge, sovereignty and self-determination. Native Conservancy’s efforts support resilient Native communities, promote Indigenous food sovereignty, and safeguard the last remaining wild salmon watersheds and ocean habitats.
